Opening or closing binder freezes CCH® ProSystem fx® Engagement or Workpaper Manager.
- The application freezes when opening a binder.
- The application freezes when closing a binder.
- The application locks up when opening and synchronizing a binder from the Central File Room.
- The application freezes and stops responding when attempting to close a binder, but only after opening and then closing a PDF file.
- The application closes with no error message when logging in.

- Corrupt engage.opt file.

Solution
- Find and locate the engage.opt file.
- Close Engagement or Workpaper Manager.
- Delete or rename the engage.opt file.
- Open and login into Engagement or Workpaper Manager.
- Immediately close Engagement or Workpaper Manager and this will regenerate a new engage.opt file.
- Relaunch Engagement or Workpaper manager again, and confirm the issue no longer occurs.
- If the issue is not resolved after step 6, check to see if the engage.opt file was recreated. If it is not recreated, add the right folder permissions following the article below.
- It's been observed that with version 2023 installations where the default folder is installed to Program Files (x86), changing the permissions of the "Users" group on the WM folder to include write/modify can resolve this issue.
- This solution can address the File Room appearing to freeze after closing a binder due to a hidden pop-up regarding duplicate index or workpaper name.
- If the issue occurs only when opening a PDF file, then closing the binder, and it is verified that this is only affecting a single user, the Windows profile for that user will need to be recreated as it is damaged or corrupt.
